Phoenix Country Club, rated one of the 100 Most Prestigious Private Clubs in America by Golf Connoisseur magazine, selected Sojourner Center as beneficiary of the club's 2012 History Week celebration. The Phoenix domestic violence shelter received a check for $3,000, representing proceeds from a raffle as well as donations from participants in the History Week observances from Jan. 25-27.
In addition to adding a philanthropic postscript to History Week, the check to Sojourner Center also marks the first charitable gift by the Phoenix Country Club Foundation. The foundation was established in 2011 with a mission to benefit local causes.
As the oldest private golf club in Arizona and the first home of the Phoenix Open, PCC has a lot of history to celebrate. Festivities for History Week 2012 included women's and men's tournaments, the Historical Phoenix Open Exhibit, and the Celebrity Charity Pro-Am tournament on Friday, Jan. 27.
The annual charity raffle alone raised more than $2,000 to help fund operations at Sojourner Center, the largest domestic violence shelter in the United States.
