Marty Jemison is considered one of the best pro U.S. cyclists of all time.
Now in his mid-forties with his racing days behind him, the Park City, Utah resident still has an intense love for the sport and works for the nation’s premier online retail cycling site, Competitive Cyclist. Drawing from his decades of experience in the saddle, racing at the highest professional level both domestically and internationally, Marty is a true ambassador of the sport and offers a unique resource to customers who shop at Competitive Cyclist. More on that in a minute.
Simply put, Marty loves the bicycle. As a sophomore in high school in 1981, Marty got his first taste of that love when his parents gave him a new bike as a gift. Thankful, yet not 100-percent satisfied with his new steed, Marty pooled together all of his savings and bought the bike he really wanted – a Trek 614. It was $594.00. He still has the sales receipt.
His racing career is impressive. After racing at the highest level in the U.S. for a few years, Marty’s cycling life changed in 1990. He moved to the Pyrenees in southern France upon graduating from the University of Utah. He was still an amateur, but his new setting paved the way for his cycling career. While in France, Marty won 11 races and made the top-10 52 times as an amateur.
In 1994, at the age of 29, Marty turned pro and raced for the WordPerfect Team. In 1996, he joined the U.S. Postal Service Team and became teammates with Lance Armstrong, among others. He is one of 29 American riders to complete the Tour de France – doing it twice (1997-1998). In 1999, Marty won the U.S. Pro Championships and captured the coveted Stars and Stripes jersey.
Marty doesn’t race anymore, but he’s in no way out of the game. For the last nine years he’s been involved in the sport, speaking at events and running his international business, Jemison Cycling Tours. In October 2011, he joined Competitive Cyclist as a customer service representative, consultant, blogger, and spokesperson.
What does Marty add to the leader in online cycling gear? He brings unparalleled experience and expert gear knowledge, and is totally accessible to Competitive Cyclist’s customers to answer any questions they may have. How many specialty bike retailers can offer a former pro as a resource, let alone a 2-time Tour de France racer and U.S. Pro Champion? Marty is the ultimate cycling Gear Guru and he’s ready to help.
At Competitive Cyclist, customer service is the top priority. With more than 20 employees whose resumes denote different niches of expertise, the diversified, well-rounded crew at Competitive Cyclist shares a love for the sport and an inspired bike culture that is passed on to every customer daily.
How cool is it to be able to call or email a cycling legend like Marty and ask him for advice on gear or anything cycling related? Plus, in addition to being available to customers on a regular basis, Marty also contributes to the Competitive Cyclist Racing Team blog, and will greet customers face-to-monitor as the spokesperson in many of the online retailer’s new product videos slated for the upcoming season.
Competitive Cyclist goes above and beyond to deliver a true specialty retail experience online. With a guy as experienced and dedicated to the sport as Marty Jemison on the team, that commitment to excellence is hard to dispute.
